Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Soldiers Group

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of characters, and a thrilling plot including celestial beings, evil spirits, and dark forces increasing in strength within the city.

Heads-up: Key plot points for Episode 3 of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Unveiled

The latest chapter finished on a huge suspense moment and introduced the first table of heroes who will split off from the primary party to begin their independent quest, distinct from the other two tables.

The combat-focused team consists of Teor Pridesire (played by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

The Reason for Division

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the start that maintaining everyone at one table would be unfeasible.

Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, connecting the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Seekers.

The Nature of the Soldiers Table

Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who enjoy a traditionally charged fight-heavy story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Initially, characters like the reluctant priest the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the third episode show why these particular heroes are best suited for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

For one thing, the party knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the antagonists.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose passing initiated the narrative’s action—manipulated The Crow Keepers for his own means, invading the secret base, attacking Thimble, and stealing all the powerful objects to auction.

Casimir then settled his debts and ran away to a fortified location in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Cyd pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each member has a specific drive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and best friend, desires vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the region and advises that it is a hostile location.
  • The warrior and The cleric, having disobeyed his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as key figures in the powerful family could help the party reach places they normally couldn’t.
  • Additionally, The fighter vowed a life debt to The savior for his rescue and will now follow him wherever.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the rulers that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally too risky:

  • The agile adventurer and Kattigan are recognized lawbreakers.
  • The strong figure and Wicander betrayed House Halovar and the legion of demons they are allied with.
  • The target is targeted for elimination by the clan.

This means them little choice but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the traitor.

What’s Next?

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we discover that the warrior group will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which players will be in which group in the season’s last Overture episode, streaming live on October 24.
